Six Word Saturday

Describing your life in a phrase using just six words,
that's what Six Word Saturday is all about.

I have mentioned it many times that I am reading
The One Year Bible For Women.

I have also mentioned how much I am loving it.
How lately,
most of the scripture's I am reading have
or are impacting our life in one way or the other.

Today's Proverb once again pretains to our lives right now.

Proverbs 14:1

1A wise women builds her home,
but a foolish women tears it down with her own hands.

We have been working on our home what seems like a lifetime.
Isn't that how it should be.
After all, in building (remodeling) a home isn't it a lifetime project?

Just as our families grows so must the home grow with them.

I love my kitchen. Some thought I was foolish.

Was I afraid, of course I was but through prayer and faith,
it came out just like I hoped it would.

One would think this beautiful kitchen is in some BIG spacious house,
but it's not.

We live and remodeled a manufactured home to be our own. Yes, we dream of someday building a new house, but that is only going to happen if it is God's plan.
Until then this is where our heart is, our home.

I never thought I would be living in such a house but when we were ready to buy a house here, after selling our house in the Napa Valley (again, some thought we were foolish), we found this property. Though I was not pleased with the house, the 1.25 acres and this garage is what made it all worth it.

It is HUGE!

It is something my hubby always wanted.

It is 25 x 65 and is divided into three area's.

The actual garage
(sorry about how messy it is,
since this picture they have cleaned it up
and will continue to add cabinetry for storage)

What we call the middle room

and the actual guest room.

Just as our house had been a work in progress,
so is this. We stopped at the trim and baseboard stage, like back in 2001.
Now that the main house is done with all the major construction,
we plan to get back out here and do some minor updates.

First will be adding all the trim and baseboards and laying new flooring in the actual guest house. I also would like to take out the solid door that leads out to back area of the garage with a french door. With a new door will have to come a upgraded backyard with it's own fence so you don't see all the garage items and car parts.

Second will be the middle room, which is our NASCAR room. I would like to arrange it so that it is also a playroom for the 'Grands'. What you don't see in the picture's is another 10 x 25 storage area that I would like to see camouflaged. I already have 2 premade storage closets dividing it off but would like to add a couple more so everything is hidden. I would like to suspend a platform with pulley's so that the race track can always be together and pulled up and down for play and storage. I will keep the twin bed but would like the queen bed built into a murphy bed so that it is out of the way for playing but can be dropped down for added guest.

As for the garage, some reorganization has already begun. We bought 2 - 10 x 10 sheds, one of which is already up and contains all my Christmas decorations and the other will house all the car parts and such. Then the garage will get more cabinets and a new floor paint application. Hubby already redid the area between the RV carport and the garage and it is his woodwork shop. It is a nice size area, 20 x 30, where he can build just about anything.

So you see, building a house, a home, is a never ending thing. We do not build or make a home for anyone else but our family and always in the direction God has provided.

I don't need nor would I want a mansion.

My little home to me is our mansion.

Counting Our Blessing's

I love reading my One Year Bible for Women. This week each day had a proverb that touch our souls. Touched on our families trials over this last year and past years of struggle. My soul was lifted in reading God's words like they were meant just for us. Afterall, weren't they wrote for us to see and follow His path.

Proverbs 13:17 (New Living Translation)

17 An unreliable messenger stumbles into trouble, but a reliable messenger brings healing.

Over this last year, we have had many messengers who would share wrongfully. At the time I couldn't believe what they were saying. I kept my faith in what I felt was the truth. Found patience through God and it was with those who were reliable sources that we began to heal in the way God had intended.

Isn't that how it is? At the beginning of a trial, you question and seek the truth. Following God's direction as you go along this journey, sometimes it is not till the end that you see the work God had been doing along.

Proverbs 13:15 (New Living Translation)

15 A person with good sense is respected; a treacherous person is headed for destruction.

I will continue to do what is right and let those who are out to hurt us be destroyed by their own actions. Our family has had it's share of struggles and yet the wicked have not been able to destroy us. It has made us a stronger family and our direction is rewarded in God's way. To be where we are, to have what we have, and will continue growing in the way God plans for us. We will always Praise Him.

Proverbs 13:24(New International Version)

24 He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

We never spared the rod in raising our children, they we disciplined for any action that was wrong and rewarded for their good actions. Some thought we were to strict with our children, yet at times to lenient. I did not want their ways to be our ways, but God's way in what he has planned for them. They were tempted, fell prey to the wicked, but it was their faith in God that carried them through, to see the right and wrong. They are just who they should be, where they should be and know that God has more planned for them. I do not dictate or control them, I share with them the tools that life requires at times and let them use them how they need.

Proverbs 13:25 (New International Version)

25 The righteous eat to their hearts' content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry.

With all God has provided us, we will continue to eat to our hearts content. Continue to have family dinners, family gatherings, family celebrations of the life God has given us. We will pray for the wicked so that they may see their evil ways and pray that God will guide them to forgive and they to will be forgiven.

5 Q's Friday

TGIF also brings 5 Question Friday!

Boy, am I out of the touch...everyone, well maybe not everyone, seems to be vlogging it. Since I don't have a camera set up to my computer, I must stay with the old fashion way.

Oh well, I'm kinda old fashion anyhow.

Onto today questions.

1. What was the first car you owned?

I didn't get my first car till I was 19 and believe it our not I only paid $35 for a 1963 Corvair. Yep, that's all it cost me, since that is all I had. My husbands cousin had this car that was out in a field where the weeds were taller then it. It started out as a joke but I was serious. So him and my hubby dragged it out and towed it to our house. (oops, I just admited we lived together before we got married. Oh well. It was better then living at home and though some didn't think we would make it, shame on them, we've been together 35 years) Back to the car. My hubby got right on checking out the motor, while I took to cleaning up the inside. It wasn't long and I don't remember what all he had to do to it, but it ran. That same summer we took our very first 2 week vacation together in that car, with 2 dogs and a cat (I wouldn't leave my babies home alone) and headed up the pacific coast then crossed over to Trinity and back home. We had stopped in this little town called Whiskeytown and as my hubby was getting something out of the trunk a little boy walked up and asked where our motor was. My hubby played it up and told him it was like the Flinstones car and we footed it there. I guess the little guy never saw a car where the motor was in the trunk and the trunk was where the motor went. Great memories!

2. What song are you embarrassed to know the lyrics to?

Golly gee! It's not so much being embarrassed to know the lyrics as it to not remembering them. Gotta love these senior moments.

3. Have you ever had stitches?

Oh yes, and not just from childbirth. I have had many surgeries, way to many! One in particular had over 100 stitches and was on the side of my face. After they removed the tumor, so not to leave a bad scar, the doctor stitched it up with tiny and close together stitches. The funny thing is it ended up forming a Y. It goes in front of my ear and behind my ear and down under my chin. The joke is I am branded for life.

4. What was your first job?

After graduating from high school, and since I was not going off to college, I needed money so I went to work at our local Round Table. My sister was the manager and gave me the job and also the shifts that interferred with my social life. She was the one in the family that took over the mothering in a disfunctional family (not that our mom was doing a bad job, she was just at the age where she thought she knew more then our mom did). She thought by working me weekend nights I wouldn't be able to go out partying. WRONG! I just went out after work. When she wouldn't give me the time off to go to a concert, I quit! The next week I got a day job at a sewing factory and worked days and made even more money. Haha!
5. Who is your favorite Sesame Street character?

Mine would be two, Bert and Ernie. Though I like Grover and of course the Cookie Monster. And who couldn't love Snuffleupagus. Ok, so that is more then two. But Bert and Ernie would be my favorite. My twin boys loved them and named their parakeets after them. When they were 3, they wanted to be Bert and Ernie for Halloween but we couldn't find a Bert costume so one was Big Bird and later they switched so they each got to be Ernie.

Now it's your turn!

A Day With Family

Yesterday I had the pleasure of having all my kids here with their families. Though our son did not have his kids for the day, it was still a wonderful and memorable time.

The day began with them getting ready for a trip to the river to play. However, a wind storm was blowing through and made it a bit nasty out on the river.

So after just about an hour, they came back home where the little ones played in the yard for a number of hours. The poor Boy kept crashing off the swing set. He was determined to do this or that trick, resulting in tumbles and one scratched up little face and fat lip. However, those bumps and boo's did not slow him down. What ever it was he was trying to master, he will achieve that success someday, but for now we guided him to other activities so to save his precious little face.

Earlier in the day, I put my ribs in the oven to slow cook them before BBQing them to get that grilled texture. As they came off the grill and while the beans and corn were finishing up cooking, it gave time for family to gather in the kitchen for great conversation. Some decided to relax in the hot tub since the wind made it to cold too swim in the pool. A few played on the beach or with the dogs in the yard. Unfortunately the camera was not always taking pictures, bummer.

When it was time to sit down and eat, the conversations and time together will remain a memory in my heart for a long time. At times we were laughing so much it was hard to take a bite of the delicious ribs. It was just a great day all around and Praise God for the ability to have such wonderful days.

I love having the family here. Can't wait for the next time.

The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ April 21, 2010

FOR TODAY ~ April 21, 2010

Outside my window...I see all my tree's in bloom. A yard that represents the hard work performed over the weekend past. A blue and inviting pool.

I am thinking...How wonderful it is to live where I do, have those in my life that fill my soul, and the ability to enjoy even the simplest of things.

I am thankful for...The men in my life who go over and beyond to help me.

From the learning rooms...That everyday is a gift from God and to enjoy the present.
From the kitchen...Baby Back Ribs slow cooking in the oven for tonights BBQ family dinner. I cook them slowly until just about done then onto the grill they go for those last few minutes.

I am wearing...Jeans and a sweater...it has actually been cold today with the wind blowing.

I am creating...A baby shower for our 6th 'Grand'.

I am going...To enjoy having all the kids for diner tonight, BBQ Baby Back Ribs are on the menu.

I am reading...My daily bible verse's. At times I find myself lost in His words and lost in this world.

I am hoping...That God will continue to guide us through our trials. His plan and we will see His rewards soon.

I am hearing...The laughter of babe's playing in the yard. The cries of one falling off a swing. The rumbling of Bella and Nikki running around.

Around the house...Are all my kids and their families minus 3 'Grands' playing and chatting. You can also see many item's on the shelves that have been confiscated from Bella. She's such a toddler

One of my favorite things...Is enjoying the time we get to watch our 'Grands' grow and explore their world.

A few plans for the rest of the week:Finish up the travel laundry that I keep procrastinating. Have our boys help their dad bring the piano in while they are visiting. Change my bedroom linens and curtains to their spring/summer decor. Swim with the 'Grands' this weekend. Church on Sunday.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

This is one of the road that leads you right to Phoenix International Raceway.
